XP on my Netbook is a good thing???
Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 10:56AM
Why in the world would retail outlets push Windows XP on Netbooks instead of Linux? I understand Netbooks are being returned because end users expected Windows and they got something new and different... but seriously. Retail outlets are now propping up Windows XP as "the" new "must have" feature for your Netbook. Windows XP is an almost 8 year old security nightmare that will most certainly cause more issues for end users than Linux ever would have. Sometimes new and different is exactly what users need on a new PC. Every day people switch from the Windows PC to the Mac and somehow survive the transition. The transition from PC to Linux is no more difficult than from the PC to the Mac. Ubuntu Netbook Remix is a mature product that has a thriving developer community and should not be overlooked by retail outlets or end users. Clearly retailers do not have end users best interest in mind while they recommend the outdated and soon to be replaced Windows XP.
