Don't forget to check for Windows updates.... it's Patch Tuesday again.

mrtIts very important to keep your system updated  to the current patch levels. Don't be an update slacker and ignore that little yellow symbol in your task bar. Playing another game of solitaire is not more important than doing your Windows updates. So now that  its "Patch Tuesday" and its after 1PM EST  head on over to your Start button and then "All Programs" and select "Windows Update" from the list.

OK so now you must be wondering whats up with this "Patch Tuesday" thing anyway?

Its basically Microsoft's way of keeping System Administrators sane by releasing patches on a scheduled day instead of randomly throughout the month.

Check out the "Patch Tuesday" wiki link below.

Did you know there is an application that scans and cleans your PC for free each month. The program is updated every Patch Tuesday. The application is called the  "Malicious Software Removal Tool"  or MSRT. The MSRT  runs in the background and actually removes many new viruses that are secretly infecting your PC.

A list of recent viruses that the MSRT has detected can be found at the following link.

http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/

Microsoft did a fine job on the MSRT....it actually hurts to say this but... Good job Microsoft.

Check out the MSRT  by going to "Start" then "Run" and typing  mrt

After clicking OK or hitting  enter you will be able to do a  Quick scan, Full scan or Customized scan. Hopefully you will get the same scan results that I did :-)
